The benchmark is one of the following 3 titles:
When will Jesus bring the pork chops? by George Carlin is a great example of a standup comedian transferring his riffs to print. Here Carlin grumps about politics, religion, and quirky language in his trademark crude and irreverent style.
I Feel Bad About My Neck: and Other Thoughts on Being a Woman by Nora Ephron is a collection of stories about growing older and being a woman. Ephron’s observational comedy is as deft and touching as it is charming and warm as she reflects on the trouble she has reading the print on pill bottles, the need for turtlenecks, and the sad reality of gravity.
- Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris, who writes bitingly funny stories about his own life and his skewered perceptions of the world. His work is deeply rooted in family life and highly autobiographical. It is sly, witty, and sneakily funny one moment and in-your-face hilarious the next.
